our history

The Lewiston Lodge was originally built in the mid-1920s as a private resort known as the Gassell Lodge. At the time, it featured six guest rooms located within the main restaurant building.

In the early 1930s, several small cabins were added around the main lodge. Following the repeal of Prohibition, the property opened its restaurant and guest accommodations to the public, offering weekly and nightly stays that included home-cooked meals and full room service.

By the early 1940s, guests could enjoy a full week of food and lodging for approximately $25 per person, a reflection of the era’s hospitality and simplicity.

A fire in the mid-1950s damaged much of the interior of the main restaurant. During the rebuilding process, the exterior cabins were connected and converted into four motel-style rooms. In the late 1950s, four additional rooms were added, bringing the total to eight.

Throughout the early to mid-1960s, six more rooms were constructed, and under new ownership, the property was renamed The Lewiston Lodge.

Today, with 14 guest rooms, a full-service restaurant & bar, and numerous updates and additions, The Lewiston Lodge stands as a four-season resort on the south shore of East Twin Lake in Lewiston, Michigan, continuing a tradition of hospitality that spans nearly a century.
